“Akon City,” initiated by Senegalese-American singer and entrepreneur Akon and currently under construction in Senegal, has chosen Kuzeyboru.
Costing USD 6 billion so far and projected to reach tens of billions by completion, the futuristic city covers 260 hectares, where we are present with 230 km of our pipelines. The project is planned to include skyscrapers, shopping malls, a technology hub, music studios, “Senewood” (a film set), and eco-friendly tourism centers. In addition, Akon’s cryptocurrency, Akoin, will serve as the central currency. Inspired by the movie Black Panther, Akon described the project as “a real-life Wakanda.”
Akon City is envisioned as a ten-year, mixed-use development. Akon states that the 2,000-acre city will be an environmentally friendly, smart city powered by renewable energy, including solar. The project also stands out as the first LEED-certified city of its kind and aims to welcome members of the African diaspora as “a home away from home.” Its primary goal is to revitalize the local economy and create employment for local workers. The city is being developed by KE International (Los Angeles) and Bakri & Associates Development Consultants (Dubai). The CEO of Bakri & Associates, Hussein Bakri, is the lead architect.
Phase 1, expected to be completed by 2023, will include the Hamptons Hospital campus, Hamptons Shopping Center, residences, hotels, a police station, a school, a waste facility, parks, and a photovoltaic solar power plant. Phase 2, planned for full operation between 2024 and 2029, will complete the city.
“When we were consulted about the infrastructure of this major futuristic city, we knew our expertise would make its mark on the project,” said Özgüner Güler, our Foreign Marketing Manager. He explained that, alongside the project design, they guided every step—not only providing consultancy but also manufacturing the required pipes specifically for the 260-hectare site, installing them with an experienced team, conducting the necessary inspections, and delivering them to the relevant parties.
Güler emphasized that Kuzeyboru has left its signature in 97 countries worldwide and will continue to strive tirelessly to uphold its slogan as a sought-after global brand, setting an example for competitors both domestically and internationally. He also added that Kuzeyboru has always been a supporter of sports, highlighting that the Kuzeyboru Women’s Volleyball Team will compete in Europe this year. He concluded:
“We love what we do, and thanks to that, we have become the supplier of the world’s most prestigious projects.”
